How ball speed is measured varies by technology. Radar-based units like the Garmin R10 measure club speed directly and derive ball speed from impact dynamics. Camera-based systems like Acuvis measure ball speed directly from motion blur. Both approaches are grounded in physics; they just start from different signals.
Questions
Does Core work without a subscription?
Yes, forever. Core is a one-time purchase. No subscription required for any core measurement feature.
What happens to my data if I don't upgrade to Pro?
It stays on your device. You own your data. Pro adds cloud backup and sync, but local data is always yours.
Does this work on my iPhone?
Acuvis Golf requires a recent iPhone Pro model with 240fps camera capability. We’re currently testing across devices and will publish a full compatibility list before launch.
Do I need special golf balls?
Acuvis works with matte orange golf balls. We recommend Maxfli StraightFli Matte Orange for the strongest detection. Use the same ball model each session for the most consistent results. A dozen runs about $20. Red and pink balls should work based on the color science but haven’t been validated yet.
Does it work with white golf balls?
No. Acuvis uses your iPhone’s color detection to separate the ball from the club, the mat, the net, and the background. White doesn’t provide enough color contrast for reliable measurement. We tested it extensively and the honest answer is that we can’t get the accuracy we require. Orange gives the camera a signal that nothing else in the scene can mimic.
Does it work with foam balls?
Yes. Acuvis Golf is the only launch monitor at any price that measures foam ball performance. Practice in your garage, backyard, or living room.
